Why is a Swan (Hamsa) used in temple architecture

A hamsa can separate water from milk! It represents satvik quality of people who are able to differentiate between incorrect or unhealthy practices from right ones! Great seers take good attributes of everything around and ignore unnecessary aspects.

An elephant is mighty and exhibits valour. It represents rajasik quality of people who are aggressive and is competitive rather than collective in nature.

A lion is fierce and intense for its food. It represents thamasik quality of people who are only self-centric and do not care for anything else.

Beyond these three is a Lotus flower. It emerges from sticky muddy water, but is a beautiful flower. This represents an extremely great state of people who are amongst all such three qualities but do not get carried into them.

The dynamic fountain therefore is arranged to reflect this amazing set of characteristics of everyone in the world. 8 Lions lie on the bottom-most part, followed by 8 Elephants and then lie 8 Swans. On top of this is a beautiful Lotus in which Bhagavad Ramanuja is seated in honour!

We wanted to update you on the progress of Bhadravedi work which has hamsas being used in window carvings! Enjoy the update on the carving and the progress on the rest exclusively for all our donors and promoters…!

On the 18th of Jan 2018, several key team members, Jagadish ji, Prasad ji, Mikkey ji, Mr. Woo, and several other designers discussed the mechanism behind the fountain of water that will shower from those 36 Elephants holding the beautiful Lotus. Some decisions regarding the design and details were taken and will be presented to Swamiji for final approval. There was also an in depth discussion on the lighting around Dynamic Fountain, the Speakers (recommended 7.1 system).

All this was based on the original proposal and the direction of Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami.

Bharath is a country that is based not only on what a brain is capable of but also on what a heart can give. It is built on the foundations of a kind heart that elevates one to a peaceful state. The Materialistic progress spiritual base can be harmful to society. It is equivalent to AK47 in the hands of a crazy person.

Around 1000 years ago, Ramanujacharya spread the profound message of Equality, which is quite essential for everyone to believe in so that we don’t fight over supremacy. Today, we would like to revive those ideal thoughts, those great deeds in the form of an inspirational centre. We would like to reinstate those foundations so that the future generations can learn and grow into peace spreading souls!

Inviting one and all to become part of this noble mission that rebuilds us as strong pillars of a great future!

Do you agree that ‘Knowledge is Power’? Yes, But – Knowledge cannot become ‘right power’ until it is used in empowering others. It cannot become ‘right power’ unless it is utilised in transforming one to be ‘giving’. It cannot become ‘right power’ until one realises the limitations of it.

Ramanujacharya had done all the above and therefore, a true Inspiration! He is like that ‘Sun’ who eliminates the ‘darkness’ of ignorance and makes lotus flowers of knowledge ‘blossom’ within us.

Today, Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami visited the Sri Ramanuja Sahasrabdi, SRS site to examine and review the work w.r.t the fountain. This fountain is a physical representation of the sloka above. Swamiji is giving us all an opportunity to ‘shower’ gratitude on Ramanujacharya who shared with us the essence of Knowledge.

Key aspects reviewed by Swamiji include but are not limited to:

  • Positioning of lotuses
  • Mechanism behind the opening and closing of the flowers
  • Emerging and retreating of Ramanujacharya’s deity from the Sun like structure
  • The finalisation of antique shade for the elements and structures used in the fountain
  • Control command room under the fountain

Samudrala Ranga Ramanujacharya Garu and Purushottham Rao Garu also accompanied Swamiji. Gopi Garu along with several devotees were along to facilitate the inspection. Chief Architect, Sthapathy – Sriman Prasad garu was along with Swamiji taking feedback to get it incorporated. As always, he was kind enough to share with us all the information on the progress of the site.

Swamiji also distributed delicious sweets to honour and appreciate the work force. HH also wished them well for the upcoming happy festive season of Sankranti. We say ‘Thanks’ to someone who has given us a glass of water when we are thirsty. We say, ‘May everything you wish for come true”; ‘thank you’ to someone who has offered you delicious food when you are super hungry. We hug a friend and express gratitude for being with us in hard times. We say thanks to the trees by doing our bit in protecting the environment. We say thanks to the Sun by offering a prayer every morning. We are thankful to everyone and everything around us for keeping us the way we are now.

How about being thankful to Acharya who shared with us the ultimate knowledge of eternal truths? To that Acharya who gave us the knowledge which supports us in leading a happier life here while paving the path to the ultimate goal of the soul?

Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamijji’s dream is to express our gratitude to Bhagavad Ramanujacharya through this wonderful ‘Statue of Equality’ project that spread the message of Ramanujacharya to the entire world for many generations. Lakhs of people who are benefited by the knowledge of Ramanujacharya are participating in the making of this great structure.

Today, as Swami reached the site and looked at the progress of work – His eyes were filled with joy. While HH was mesmerised looking at the Acharyas 216 foot statue, everyone around there got lost into Swamiji’s eyes that were filled with loads of happiness, gratitude and a sense of fullness.

Guru asked Yudhishtar to go around the kingdom and get the list of bad people. Guru asked Dhuryodhan also to go around the kingdom and get the list of good people.

Guess what? Both returned with empty lists. Neither Yudhishtar found a single bad person nor Dhuryodhan found a single good person in the same kingdom.

It is the eye with which you see a fellow being that makes you identify him as good and bad.

A good heart increases your ability to see the pains and agonies in the people around you. Bhagavad Ramanujacharya was blessed with such a good heart that he could not take the pain of anyone around him. He understood the feelings of a person without having to be explicitly stated. He gave away the greatest secrets and the best of the knowledge as soon as he discovered that it will help people alleviate from miseries. He came forward to help everyone’s socio-economic status by enriching their knowledge levels and worked towards giving opportunities to grow.

Several leaders such as Martin Luther King, Nelson Madela, Abhrahim Lincoln had good hearts that enabled them to see pains of their communities and lifted them up.

Bhagavad Ramanujacharya looked upon everyone as equal in the Eyes of Lord and therefore everyone deserved the best.

Gurus such as Ramanujacharya maintain their purity while still living in this egotistic world. They bless us with good virtues and uplift us to greater extents. They act as magnets. If an iron piece is connected to the magnet, it will begin to possess the abilities of the magnet. Similarly as long we are connected to such Gurus, our abilities to do good work, to serve the world will increase.

Let us rise to the occasion of remembering such an inspiring Guru and take part in completing our project, Statue of Equality as a token of gratitude for HIS benevolence!

– From the discourse of Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami in Houston, USA on 26th Nov’2018

Highlights of the recent work at the SRS (Sri Ramanujaj Sahasrabdi) site:

  • Installation of copper plates for the Tridandam is complete
  • Polishing of the Tridandam is in progress
  • The secondary polish of the 10th to 12th level of the body, thirumeni is complete
  • Additional workforce reaching the site to pick up on Dynamic Fountain job
  • Provider gave 8 options with pros and cons for the Dynamic Mountain
  • More than 7,500 sq. metres of construction complete for Bhadravedi Complex, area under the Statue
  • 108 Divya Desams – Few aspirants have come forward to take up 4 Divya Desams construction
  • Lighting in Bhadravedi – Electrical work is in progress; about 65% complete

This extremely humongous effort initiated by Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami is unimaginable for many saints, scholars, leaders, and professionals in all areas. Many of them say, ‘It is becoming a reality because of the pure intent of Sri Swamiji and the resulting selfless benefits of the endeavour.’ However, Swamiji always says, ‘The project belongs to everyone and it is a result of the contribution of everyone.’

For a non-profit organisation which runs from the funds of donors, it is quite a challenging task to even dream about such an amazing project. But, for Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami – the goal is clear and uncompromising primarily because He understands the immeasurable value of wisdom and the path laid out by Bhagavad Ramanujacharya. His Holiness aims to pass on the same wisdom to future generations and thereby preserving our true identity and the vision of Vedam. This project will stand unique and become an icon of Pride to the nation, mankind and to the entire existence.

Don’t you agree that it is our duty to take part in this effort as we all are reaping the benefits of the great wisdom shared by Bhagavad Ramanujacharya?

We thank all the existing donors and would like them all to share this opportunity with friends and family. Let’s not wait and continue to contribute more!

‘ధనం ఉన్న వారు కాదు పెద్ద మనుషులు, పెద్ద మనసు ఉన్న వారు నిజమయిన పెద్ద మనుషులు’, said Sri Ahobila Ramanuja Jeeyar Swami.

On a mission to invite everyone and spread the word of Ramanujacharya, Sri Ahobila Ramanuja Jeeyar Swami went to Pedha Shahpur thanda near by the JIVA campus in Sri Ram Nagar. They heard from Swami about the 1048 Kunda Yagna as part of Ramanuja Sahasrabdi celebrations in the months of March and April 2018. This Yagna requires 1,60,000 Kgs of pure ghee. They announced their contribution of 30,000 rupees worth of pure ghee to be used in the Yagna. More than 100 youngsters happily and willingly registered to volunteer during those days in the asram for any kind of service. These people are all lambadis and primarily low income families. But, They are the ones with ‘Rich hearts’! Don’t you think so?

It is believed that a squirrel began to do its part in order to quickly build the bridge so that Sri Rama and Sitha Devi are back together. It was the love-filled thought behind the act which made the squirrel an inspiration for anyone who can do at least a small bit for a huge great endeavour such as this! An endeavour that is selfless and is aimed at enriching lives of everyone who wants to achieve the prime purpose of life through Ramanujacharya’s teachings.

According to sastras, it is through Agni that we offer our thankfulness to Lord for giving us every opportunity to live well, serve well and be the right instruments in the hands of Lord. And thus, such Yagna will convey millions of people’s gratitude for giving us the Acharya, Ramanuja who has taught us the way to lead the current life while uncompromising on the essence of Vedic truths.

On the 24th of November, first steps were taken in planning and marking a ride in Sri Ramanuja Sahasrabdi site at JIVA campus, Sri Ram Nagar. This ride is being designed to take the visitors into the key incidents in Ramanuja’s life making them feel like they are part of those times!

There are several events in the life journey of Ramanuja which reveal his intense understanding of the entire existence and deep concern for everyone. The events are a ‘must to watch’ for anyone in question about the ‘purpose of life’ or ‘what next in life’ or ‘what is right and what is wrong’ or ‘why should I do this and not that’ and such conflicts in mind.

Sriman Sanjay ji, Sriman Rajeev ji, Sriman Ramesh Mantha, Sriman Prasad and few other key people discussed the first drawings on an exhibition or a ride that will walk the people through the life history of Ramanujacharya. Entry and Exit areas, Key show areas, and pathways were all talked through keeping in mind the objective of giving an experience of taking part in the actual event from the history! What an amazing opportunity for everyone to not only learn from but actually live in the event!

A short description of one such incident that you see in the image is:

Vittadeva of the Hoysala dynasty, was the King, with Thondanur Nambi as one of the prime ministers. Vittadeva’s daughter was suffering from a serious ailment. The king approached many of Jain monks but their efforts could not help the daughter. Thondanur Nambi proposed to the King that they meet Ramanujacharya who had recently come to towards the area. King agreed.

In the meantime, Thondanur Nambi met Ramanuja and told him about:

  • severe droughts in the area
  • the Princess being ill
  • recently discovered deity of Narayana

Ramanujacharya agreed to see the King’s daughter. The daughter spoke out saying that the ‘theertham’ obtained from washing Ramanujacharya’s feet, and the touch of his feet on her head will heal her. King asked her how he would know if the ailment is completely gone. She responded saying that a tree’s branch seen from her window will fall down as soon as the sickness is gone. Everything happened according to what was planned and the daughter recovered from the illness. King was extremely happy and was began to be devoted to Ramanujacharya. That caused anger in the Jain monks and they challenged  with Ramanujacharya for a debate. Whoever loses the challenge will follow the winner’s school of thought.

Ramanujacharya suggested that a cloth be tied as a separator between the Jain monks and himself. About 10,000 monks gathered and questioned Ramanujacharya. His answers suited all of them even though all their questions were different. It was an amazing incident and people were thrilled to watch the debate on philosophy and eternal truths. Ramanujacharya won the challenge and several Jain monks became his disciples.

This is what you see in the picture/image. This will be an incident that we can observe and be part of in the Statue of Equality project!

After winning the challenge, Ramanujacharya went through the kingdom and observed the reasons for the severe drought condition. He suggested the King to build a bridge and advised technical ways to improve the condition of farmers. The King was surprised to see Ramanujacharya’s knowledge on aspects that relate to social development. His keen eye into details and technical aspects of implementing a solution for the problem were both very inspiring to the King. The King also named the bridge and the water reservoir as ‘Thirumalaraya Sagaram’ as per the recommendation of Ramanujacharya.

Later, Ramanujacharya suggested that the king can also now build a temple for the recently discovered deity of Narayana to help people satisfy their thirst for the journey of soul towards eternal bliss.

Thus, Ramanujacharya’s extreme wisdom in all aspects tells us how it is possible to attain spiritual enlightenment while paying great attention to all social causes. Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swamiji is no less in this endeavour. As Swamiji always says, a True Vaishnava is one whose heart bleeds and his acts to relieve another soul from suffering!

How great it is that we all have an opportunity to live through these wonderful incidents of Ramanujacharya under the aegis of Sri Chinna Jeeyar Swami. Come, PARTICIPATE in the making of Statue of Equality!
